the films of Austrian director, Michael Haneke, explore guilt both on a personal and social level. NO doubt this is informed by Austrian national guilt over Hitler.

I have recently watch Pan's Labyrinth, which was defonately historically influenced, the film depicted an image of wartime spain, altohugh not at war they were still under facist control and shows rebellion agains this. Although this film contain specifically spanish content and people may not known of the situation in spain at this time, i believe it reached a wider audience due to the similarities to The lion, the witch and the wardrobe story, children in awful real-world situations escaping to a fantasy land where they are heroes among other reasons.

Example... German films, very war based, shows the goodness of the germen peoples actions, showguilt? show normal germans not evil to the world?
